International Student Additional Placement Registrations from October 19-23, 2026

Istanbul University has published the registration guide for international students placed in associate and undergraduate programs through TR-YÖS or GCE-AL scores for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Registrations will be conducted online via AKSİS (aksis.istanbul.edu.tr) or in person at the unit related to the program. Candidates who do not apply during these dates will have their registration rights canceled. The Foreign Language Mandatory Preparatory Proficiency Exam and the Turkish Proficiency Exam will be held on October 27, 2026.

How to Register as an International Student at Istanbul University

Online registration is done through AKSİS. Candidates entering the system for the first time must create a one-time account via the “Online Registration” link and upload the required documents to the system. Candidates registering in person will submit their documents to the student affairs office of the faculty, school, or vocational school they have been placed in. Course registrations will also be done through AKSİS.

Required Documents for Registration

The following documents are required from candidates:

• Original high school diploma or temporary graduation certificate along with a notarized or Turkish consulate-approved Turkish translation
• Original equivalence certificate obtained from the provincial directorate of national education or Turkish consulate (if equivalence is not ready, an application document is accepted)
• Approved transcript from the high school and its approved Turkish translation
• The TR-YÖS or GCE-AL result document used in the application
• Notarized Turkish translation of the passport identity, validity, and visa pages, if any
• A 4.5x6.0 cm photo taken within the last six months, a bank receipt showing that the tuition fee has been paid, and a signed Statement of Financial Guarantee

Additionally, candidates are required to submit a residence certificate within one month from the registration date. If available, a notarized copy of the internationally valid foreign language certificate and Turkish proficiency certificate must also be submitted. For candidates from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus studying in TRNC and GCE-AL holders who received their education abroad between 2005-2010, a notarized Turkish translation of the GCE-AL result document is required. For dual nationals who were foreign citizens by birth and later acquired Turkish citizenship, a detailed population registration sample is requested.

Equivalence and Graduation Document Deadlines

If the equivalence certificate is not submitted within 60 days from the registration date, the registration will be canceled. Candidates who have registered temporarily due to situations like make-up exams or single courses must submit their graduation certificate by December 31, 2026.

Dual nationals or Turkish citizens who obtain a diploma from a foreign high school through distance education will not be registered. The passport entry-exit records of dual nationals or Turkish citizens who obtain a diploma from a foreign high school through formal education will be checked.

Tuition Fee Payment

The tuition fee is paid to Halkbank Beyazıt Branch using the reference number obtained from AKSİS. The fee amounts are available at the link on the university's announcement page.

Turkish and Foreign Language Proficiency Exams

Students placed in programs with a preparatory class will take the Foreign Language Mandatory Preparatory Proficiency Exam conducted face-to-face by the School of Foreign Languages on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 09:30. All candidates without a Turkish proficiency certificate will take the Turkish Proficiency Exam conducted face-to-face by the IÜ Language Center on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 13:30.

Residence Permit and Health Insurance

International students will apply for a residence permit at the International Student Application and Research Center. International students registered in the Faculty of Open and Distance Education are not required to obtain a residence permit. Students can apply to SGK by paying the general health insurance premium within three months from the registration date.
