How to Apply for Graduate Programs at Ankara University

Applications will be made online via the link https://basvuru.ankara.edu.tr between November 2 - December 4, 2026. It is stated that candidates who have graduated from undergraduate programs can apply for master's programs; candidates who have graduated from master's programs can apply for doctoral programs.

During the application, candidates must keep the security key sent automatically to the email addresses they declare in the system. Candidates must upload the documents requested by the relevant institute for final registration to the system and deliver them to the relevant institute before the exam date for international candidates. The required documents will be uploaded to the system via the document upload button, which will be active on the candidates' application screen during the announced document upload dates.

Results of candidates who make incorrect declarations, apply with incomplete documents or unsigned forms will be considered invalid, and their final registrations will be canceled. The application will not be valid unless the “Complete Applications” button is used to successfully complete the application. After the application period ends, changes cannot be made to the information entered in the system.

Candidates can only apply to one graduate program at a time. Candidates who want to make two applications must first complete their first application and then make their second application in another period. However, candidates must make their second applications from the same application type (Turkish citizen, international, Blue Card, etc.) as their first application. Candidates should carefully read the information about quotas and application conditions on the relevant institute's web page before starting the “Online Application” process.

Application Requirements for Graduate Programs at Ankara University

Candidates who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine can apply to doctoral programs in basic medical sciences (anatomy, biophysics, biostatistics, physiology, histology-embryology, medical biochemistry, medical biology, medical microbiology, medical parasitology, medical education and informatics, and medical history and ethics) with at least a score of 50 on the TUS basic score or with at least a score of 55 on the ALES document. Candidates who graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry can apply to doctoral programs with at least a score of 50 on the DUS document or with a score of 55 or higher on the ALES document in the numerical score type. The validity period of TUS and DUS result documents is stated as 5 years.

Except for non-thesis master's programs, it is not possible to register for multiple graduate programs at the same time. The validity period of the ALES result document is 5 years.

In applications for master's programs, candidates' ALES and foreign language exam information (such as YDS/YÖKDİL) will be retrieved from ÖSYM for exams conducted by ÖSYM, equivalency information will be obtained from the YÖK Equivalency System, and graduation/grade point averages for the semester will be pulled from the Higher Education Information System (YÖKSİS). If the graduation information on YÖKSİS is incomplete/incorrect, candidates must first check their undergraduate or graduate graduation information through the e-Government system. Candidates with incomplete or non-existent undergraduate/graduate information should contact the university they graduated from.

If the graduation grade point averages recorded by the candidates' universities in YÖKSİS are not “300” but “4”, they will be automatically converted to the equivalent in the “100” system using the table “Correspondences of Grades in the 4-Point System to the 100-Point System” provided by the Higher Education Council. The graduation/grade point averages in the 100-point system provided by their universities cannot be used for candidates in this situation. To learn the equivalent score of scores obtained from an internationally recognized foreign language exam accepted by ÖSYM, the relevant table will be used.

In applications for doctoral programs, candidates' ALES and foreign language exam information will be retrieved from the systems in the same way. According to the third paragraph of the Temporary Article 1 of the Graduate Education and Training Regulation published in the Official Gazette dated April 20, 2016, and numbered 29690, only candidates who were registered in a non-thesis master's program or graduated before February 6, 2013, can apply for doctoral programs.

Students registered in TUS, DUS, and EUS programs cannot simultaneously register for a thesis master's or doctoral program.

Conditions for International Candidates

International candidates and Turkish citizens who have completed their entire undergraduate education abroad must meet the following conditions for admission to the university's master's/doctoral programs, provided they graduate from undergraduate programs recognized by the Higher Education Council: For applications to programs taught in a foreign language, the entire undergraduate/graduate education must have been completed in that foreign language; they must document the foreign language requirement requested for the program they are applying to. ALES scores are not required from these candidates.

For Turkish language exams, the Master's Foreign Language Exam conducted by the University’s School of Foreign Languages and the Open and Distance Education Faculty Exam Management Center (ASYM), YDS, YÖKDİL, or results from internationally recognized exams accepted by ÖSYM will be accepted.

According to the decision of the University Senate dated 02/06/2020 and numbered 557/4949; it has been decided that for graduates of doctoral/artistic proficiency/medical specialization/dental specialization/pharmaceutical specialization programs, an ALES score of 70 will be accepted for applications to the university's graduate programs, in accordance with Articles 1 and 2 of the Regulation on Amendments to the Graduate Education and Training Regulation published in the Official Gazette dated April 14, 2020, and numbered 31099.

The validity period of YDS/YÖKDİL and the Ankara University Master's Foreign Language Exam is 5 years.
