Marmara Üniversitesi'nde tezsiz yüksek lisans programlarına ALES şartı aranmadan başvurulabilir. Tezli yüksek lisans ve doktora programlarında T.C. uyruklu adaylar için ALES zorunludur. Güzel Sanatlar Enstitüsü başvurularında ve yabancı uyruklu aday kontenjanında da ALES puanı istenmez. Yabancı uyruklu adaylar transkript, mesleki bilgi değerlendirmesi ve mülakat sonucuna göre değerlendirilir.

Marmara Üniversitesi yüksek lisans ve doktora öğrencileri TÜBİTAK, YÖK ve araştırma görevliliği gibi kamu destek türlerinden yararlanabilir. Marmara Üniversitesi'nde tezsiz yüksek lisans programları vardır ve en az iki, en çok üç yarıyılda tamamlanır. Tezsiz programda öğrenci en az 10 ders alır ve 60 AKTS kredisini tamamlar. Program, dönem projesiyle sona erer ve tez yazılmaz. Sosyal Bilimler, Fen Bilimleri ve Sağlık Bilimleri enstitülerinde tezsiz seçenekler bulunur; ikinci öğretim ve uzaktan öğretim tezsiz programlar da yürütülür.

Yabancı uyruklu adaylar Marmara Üniversitesi yüksek lisans programlarına ALES şartı olmadan, yabancı uyruklu kontenjanından başvurur. YÖS ve TR-YÖS lisansüstü başvuruda istenmez. Türkçe programlar için B2 düzeyinde Türkçe yeterlik belgesi gerekir. Yurt dışı diploması olan aday okul tanıma belgesi sunar. Başvurular Marmara Üniversitesi başvuru sistemi üzerinden çevrim içi yapılır.

Marmara Üniversitesi tezli yüksek lisans ve doktora başvurularında YDS, e-YDS, YÖKDİL, e-YÖKDİL, TOEFL iBT ve PTE Academic belgelerini kabul eder. ÖSYM'nin eşdeğer saydığı diğer sınavlar da geçerlidir. Tezsiz yüksek lisans programlarında yabancı dil şartı aranmaz. İngilizce yürütülen programlarda aday, dil yeterliğini uluslararası sınav belgesiyle ya da o dilde tamamladığı diplomayla gösterir.

Marmara Üniversitesi doktora başvurusu için tezli yüksek lisans diploması, ALES belgesi ve yabancı dil belgesi gerekir.
