Introduction

The Türkiye Burslari 2027 application period is expected to follow the published Türkiye Scholarships calendar, which lists general applications from 10 January to 20 February. As of 12 October 2026, the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) has not issued a dated 2027 call. The 2026 round ran from 10 January to 20 February 2026, according to YTB’s announcement of 15 January 2026, and the 2025 round used the same dates.

Türkiye Scholarships, known in Turkish as Türkiye Bursları, is the government scholarship program for international students run under the coordination of YTB. It funds associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral study, and it is separate from scholarships offered by individual universities or foundations. This article focuses on graduate applicants: people planning a master’s degree, a PhD or a research stay at a Turkish university.

The sources used here are official: YTB news releases, the Türkiye Scholarships website pages for the calendar, criteria and selection process, and announcements from Turkish education counsellors and universities. Demand has grown sharply. YTB reported 125,668 applications from 171 countries in 2025, and nearly 200,000 applications in 2026.

Dates and criteria can change from one round to the next. Mezun Kampüsü recommends checking the official Türkiye Scholarships announcement for 2027 as soon as it appears, and treating every date in this guide as the published pattern rather than a confirmed 2027 deadline.

What are the Türkiye Burslari 2027 application dates?

The official Türkiye Scholarships calendar gives the general application period as 10 January to 20 February, with no year attached. As of 12 October 2026, YTB has not published a dated 2027 call. If the 2027 round follows the 2025 and 2026 pattern, applications would open on 10 January 2027 and close on 20 February 2027, but that remains unconfirmed until YTB announces it.

The general round is the main entry route for full-time master’s and PhD scholarships. It is also the round that most search results mean when they mention the “Turkey Burslari deadline” or the “Türkiye Scholarships deadline”. Other programs, such as the Success Scholarship and the Research Scholarship, follow separate calendars that are covered in Section 6.

The 10 January to 20 February window has been stable for at least two rounds. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Jordan published the 2025 window as 10 January to 20 February 2025. YTB’s news release of 15 January 2026 gave the 2026 window as 10 January to 20 February 2026. The Turkish Ministry of National Education’s education counsellor in Bern added, on 15 January 2026, that 2026 applications were taken in a single period.

A stable pattern is useful for planning, but it is not an announcement. The Türkiye Scholarships calendar page carries no year, and it includes no statement that the dates are fixed. In 2026, the Türkiye Scholarships website posted its “Türkiye Scholarships 2026 Applications” announcement on 29 December 2025, about two weeks before the window opened. A similar late-December announcement would be consistent with past practice, though YTB has not said when the 2027 call will appear.

For a graduate applicant, the practical reading is simple. Plan your documents around a 10 January opening and a 20 February closing date, and confirm both dates on the official Türkiye Scholarships website once the 2027 announcement is published. Applications are submitted online through the Türkiye Scholarships application system, not through individual universities.

Who can apply in the 2027 graduate round?

Türkiye Scholarships accepts applications from citizens of all countries, according to the Criteria and Scholarship Programs page on the official website. The published age criteria are under 30 for master’s applicants and under 35 for PhD applicants. Graduates and students who will graduate before August of the application year can apply. Turkish citizens, and people already enrolled at a Turkish university at the level they are applying for, are not eligible.

The graduation rule matters for timing. A student finishing a bachelor’s degree in June 2027 can apply in the January–February 2027 window for a master’s scholarship, because the criteria page accepts “those who will graduate at the end of the current academic year (before August)”. The same logic applies to a master’s student finishing before August 2027 and applying for a PhD.

The enrollment rule is narrower than it sounds. The criteria page excludes people already enrolled at a Turkish university at the same level of education they are applying for. A bachelor’s graduate of a Turkish university is not excluded from applying for a master’s scholarship by that rule; a student already enrolled in a Turkish master’s program would be excluded from the master’s round.

Each round also sets a minimum academic achievement level by program type. The criteria page publishes those levels, and applicants should read them directly from the official page for the 2027 round rather than from third-party summaries.

The table below summarizes the published age criteria and the calendar each scholarship type follows.

How the age criterion is calculated, for example against which date in the year, is not stated on the criteria page. Applicants close to the limit should check the 2027 call text or ask YTB directly.

How does the round move from application to arrival?

The general Türkiye Scholarships round runs for about eight months. According to the official calendar, applications close on 20 February, evaluation takes place in March and April, interviews run from April to June, and results are announced in early August. Initial procedures follow in August, and scholarship holders travel to Türkiye in September to begin their studies.

The Evaluation and Selection Process page describes the stages in order. First comes a preliminary assessment, in which “All applications are examined on the basis of basic criteria such as minimum academic achievement”, together with age limits and required documents. An expert committee then reviews eligible applications and sets the final list of candidates invited to interview.

The interview stage is where shortlisted applicants meet a selection committee, usually face to face. The page states that candidates selected “from more than 100 countries” are evaluated by interview committees, and that the interview “usually lasts 15-30 minutes”. Candidates are asked to bring their latest education documents and certificates. A written test is part of the process for undergraduate candidates in certain fields; the page does not describe a test for graduate candidates.

YTB President Abdulhadi Turus described the post-deadline stages when the 2026 window closed:

Following these desk-based reviews, we will go to the candidates’ respective countries and conduct face-to-face interviews with them in person.
— Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), 26 February 2026

After the interviews, a selection committee evaluates interview results together with each candidate’s general eligibility and produces the final list of scholarship recipients. The calendar places this announcement in early August. Universities then handle enrollment: Marmara University’s International Relations Office, for example, announced on 3 September 2026 that placed Türkiye Scholarship holders had to complete registration by 16 November 2026. Registration deadlines are set by each university and differ between institutions.

What should you prepare before 10 January?

Most documents for a Türkiye Scholarships application can be prepared well before the window opens. The Application in 5 Steps page on the official website lists an identity document, a recent photograph, a diploma or temporary graduation certificate, a transcript, and, where the chosen program requires them, international exam and language test results. PhD applicants also submit a research proposal and a writing sample.

Preparing in October, November and December leaves the 42-day window for choosing programs and writing statements rather than chasing paperwork. Transcripts and graduation certificates often take several weeks to obtain from a home university, and international tests such as the GRE, GMAT or TOEFL have their own registration and score-reporting timelines.

The photograph rule is specific: the official page asks for “A photograph of the candidate taken within the last 1 year”. Exam results are conditional. The page asks for international exam results “if required by the chosen university or program”, so the program list you build in advance decides which tests you need.

PhD applicants carry the heaviest preparation load. The official page asks for “A proposal for a research topic and a written example of the research you have carried out”. Drafting both in the autumn gives time for feedback from a former supervisor.

  • Check that your passport or national identity document stays valid through the 2027 application and interview period

  • Take a new photograph dated within one year of your application

  • Request your transcript, and your diploma or temporary graduation certificate, from your current university

  • Build a shortlist of master’s or PhD programs and note which ones ask for GRE, GMAT or language test results

  • Register for any required international test early enough for results to arrive before 20 February

  • Draft a research proposal and select a writing sample if you are applying for a PhD

  • Bookmark the official Türkiye Scholarships website and check for the 2027 announcement from late December 2026

Turkish language ability is not listed among the required documents. YTB’s International Students page states that scholarship holders receive “1-year Turkish language education”, which is designed for students who do not yet speak Turkish.

How has the Türkiye Scholarships deadline changed over time?

The Türkiye Scholarships deadline has not always been 20 February. For the 2018 intake, YTB split applications into three periods, according to Hürriyet’s report of 20 December 2017. By 2025 and 2026, the program had returned to a single general window from 10 January to 20 February. Application volume grew from around 10,000 in 2012 to nearly 200,000 in 2026.

The three-period model was introduced because some countries end their academic year earlier than others, Hürriyet reported, and candidates were waiting a long time to apply. Under that model, the first period closed on 30 November 2017, the second ran from 5 February to 5 March 2018, and the third ran from 16 April to 14 May 2018. The same report put 2017 applications at about 107,000 from 163 countries.

The single window seen in 2025 and 2026 is shorter and earlier than the old third period. That shift is the main reason older guides and forum posts can mislead: a page written for the 2018 cycle may describe a May deadline that no longer applies. Checking the posting date of any guide, and comparing it with the calendar on the official Türkiye Scholarships website, is the simplest way to avoid planning around an outdated deadline.

Which Türkiye Scholarships calendar fits your plan?

Türkiye Scholarships runs three calendars on the official website. The general round, from 10 January to 20 February, covers full-time master’s and PhD scholarships. The Success Scholarship accepts applications in October and November, with results in November. The Research Scholarship runs four rounds a year for researchers and academics under 50. Your current status decides which calendar applies.

A graduate who has not yet started a degree in Türkiye, and wants a fully funded master’s or PhD, belongs in the general round. The general round includes university placement and the year of Turkish language education described on YTB’s International Students page. YTB states that approximately 5,000 international students receive scholarships every year, and that approximately 15,000 scholars benefit from the program.

The Success Scholarship is a different product. The official calendar lists its application period as October–November and its results as November. The Türkiye Scholarships 2026 brochure describes it as designed for students studying at Turkish universities with their own funding who have shown strong academic performance, and states that it covers only the monthly stipend. Its detailed eligibility rules are published with each call.

The Research Scholarship suits academics and researchers who want a research stay rather than a degree. The age criterion for the Research Scholarship is under 50, according to the criteria page.

Research Scholarship round dates on the official calendar

The Türkiye Scholarships calendar lists four Research Scholarship rounds. The first accepts applications from January to March, with evaluation and results in April. The second runs from April to June, with results in July. The third runs from July to September, with results in October. The fourth runs from October to December, with results in January.

YTB also coordinates joint programs with partner organizations. The Türkiye Scholarships website listed a YTB–Islamic Development Bank Joint Scholarship Program 2026 application period on 29 January 2026, on a calendar separate from the general round. Joint programs publish their own eligibility rules and dates.

Is the 2027 deadline already confirmed?

No official 2027 deadline has been published as of 12 October 2026. Several third-party scholarship websites already publish pages titled for 2027, but those pages repeat the general calendar rather than an official YTB call. The 2027 date becomes confirmed only when YTB or the Türkiye Scholarships website publishes the 2027 announcement.

The confusion has a clear source. The calendar page on the official Türkiye Scholarships website shows the general window as “January 10 – February 20” with no year, so any site can attach “2027” to it. That is a reasonable expectation, but it is not the same as a confirmed deadline. Applicants who rely on a third-party page risk missing a change that only the official announcement would contain.

A second change worth watching is selection. On 4 December 2025, YTB announced a protocol with the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) under which Türkiye Scholarships will use the infrastructure of TR-YÖS in its student selection processes. YÖS is the examination used in international student applications to higher education programs in Turkey; it is administered principally for undergraduate admission. YTB has not stated how the protocol will affect graduate applicants in 2027.

Three points separate an official 2027 call from a copied one:

  • The announcement appears on the official Türkiye Scholarships or YTB website, with a posting date

  • The text names the 2027 year and states the opening and closing dates in full

  • The announcement links to the official online application system rather than an agent or a payment page

Türkiye Scholarships applications are made online through the official system. YTB’s 2026 announcement directed applicants to the official Türkiye Scholarships website, and applicants can treat any third-party service asking for payment to “submit” an application with caution.

What to do between October 2026 and the deadline

The period from October 2026 to 20 February 2027 is the preparation window for a Türkiye Scholarships graduate application. The most useful steps are building a program shortlist, collecting documents, booking any required tests, and checking the official website from late December 2026; the 2026 call was posted on 29 December 2025. No step guarantees selection; each one reduces the chance of a rushed application.

Volume is the strongest argument for starting early. YTB reported nearly 200,000 applications in 2026, compared with 125,668 in 2025. With approximately 5,000 scholarships awarded each year, according to YTB’s International Students page, a complete and carefully written application matters.

  1. In October and November 2026, confirm that you meet the published age criterion for your level: under 30 for a master’s degree, under 35 for a PhD.

  2. In November 2026, request transcripts and graduation documents, and register for any international test your shortlisted programs require.

  3. In December 2026, draft your statement of purpose and, for a PhD, your research proposal and writing sample.

  4. From late December 2026, check the official Türkiye Scholarships website for the 2027 announcement and note the confirmed dates.

  5. Once the window opens, submit well before the published closing date rather than on the final day.

  6. Between April and June 2027, keep your documents ready in case you are invited to an interview.

After submission, the general calendar places interviews between April and June and results in early August. Calendars can shift from year to year, so check the 2027 call itself before relying on any date in this list. If you are already a student in Türkiye, the October–November Success Scholarship calendar may be the relevant one instead.

Real-World Examples

The examples in this section are illustrative scenarios created to explain situations applicants may encounter.

Amina, finishing her bachelor’s in June 2027. Amina is in the final year of an economics degree and wants a master’s in Türkiye. She worries that she cannot apply until she graduates. The Türkiye Scholarships criteria page accepts candidates who will graduate before August of the application year, so she plans to apply in the January–February 2027 window with her transcript and a temporary document from her university. She requests both in November 2026, leaving January for program choices and her statement.

Daniel, aged 34, applying for a PhD. Daniel holds a master’s degree in civil engineering and is 34. The published PhD age criterion is under 35, and the criteria page does not say against which date age is measured. Daniel checks the 2027 call text as soon as it appears and writes to YTB to confirm how the criterion applies to his birth date. Meanwhile he drafts his research proposal and asks his former supervisor for feedback on a writing sample, so his application is ready either way.

Leila, already studying in Istanbul. Leila is in the second year of a self-funded master’s at a university in Istanbul. A friend tells her to apply in the general round in January. Because the criteria page excludes students already enrolled at the level they are applying for, Leila looks instead at the Success Scholarship, which the 2026 brochure describes as designed for self-funded students at Turkish universities. Its calendar runs in October and November, so she reads that call’s eligibility rules before deciding.

Tomás, using a 2018 guide. Tomás finds a guide saying Türkiye Scholarships applications close in May. He checks the date of the page and sees it describes the three-period model YTB used for the 2018 intake. Comparing it with the official calendar, which lists 10 January to 20 February, he moves his preparation forward by three months and books his language test for December 2026. He also notes the posting date of every page he reads, so he can tell the 2027 call from an archived one.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do Türkiye Burslari 2027 applications open?+

No official opening date had been published as of 12 October 2026. The Türkiye Scholarships calendar lists the general application period as 10 January to 20 February, and both the 2025 and 2026 rounds opened on 10 January. A 10 January 2027 opening is therefore the published pattern, not a confirmed date. Check the official Türkiye Scholarships website for the 2027 announcement, which in the 2026 cycle was posted on 29 December 2025.

What is the Türkiye Scholarships deadline for 2027?+

The expected closing date is 20 February 2027, based on the general calendar on the official website. YTB had not confirmed this date as of 12 October 2026. The 2026 round closed on 20 February 2026, according to YTB’s announcement of 15 January 2026. Treat 20 February as a planning date and confirm it against the official 2027 call before relying on it.

can i apply for turkiye burslari before i graduate+

Yes, in most cases. The Türkiye Scholarships criteria page accepts graduates and “those who will graduate at the end of the current academic year (before August)”. A final-year student finishing in June 2027 can apply in the January–February 2027 window. You will usually submit a transcript and, if your diploma is not yet issued, a temporary graduation certificate. Confirm the exact wording in the 2027 call, as criteria can change between rounds.

What is the age limit for a master’s or PhD with Türkiye Scholarships?+

The Türkiye Scholarships criteria page sets the age criterion at under 30 for master’s programs and under 35 for PhD programs. The Research Scholarship uses a separate criterion of under 50. The page does not state the reference date used to calculate age. Applicants close to the limit should read the 2027 call carefully or contact YTB before applying, since a small difference in the reference date can matter.

When are Türkiye Scholarships interviews held?+

The official calendar places interviews between April and June, after an evaluation stage in March and April. According to the Evaluation and Selection Process page, shortlisted candidates from more than 100 countries are interviewed by committees, and an interview usually lasts 15 to 30 minutes. YTB stated on 26 February 2026 that its teams travel to candidates’ countries for face-to-face interviews, and the 2026 brochure notes that some interviews are held online or by telephone.

When are Türkiye Burslari results announced?+

The Türkiye Scholarships calendar lists the announcement of results for the general round as early August. Initial procedures follow in August, and scholarship holders travel to Türkiye in September. The calendar does not give an exact day, and results timing can vary from year to year. Applicants who submit in the January–February 2027 window can expect to wait several months between submission and a final decision.

do i need to speak turkish to apply for turkiye scholarships+

Turkish is not listed among the required documents on the Türkiye Scholarships application page. YTB’s International Students page states that scholarship holders receive one year of Turkish language education. Language test results such as TOEFL are requested only “if required by the chosen university or program”. Requirements for English-taught and Turkish-taught programs differ, so check each program on your shortlist.

Can I apply to Türkiye Scholarships if I already study at a Turkish university?+

It depends on the level. The criteria page excludes people already enrolled at a Turkish university at the same level of education they are applying for, so a student in a Turkish master’s program would not qualify for the master’s round. The Türkiye Scholarships 2026 brochure describes the Success Scholarship as designed for self-funded students at Turkish universities. Its calendar lists an October–November application period, and its eligibility rules are published with each call.

what documents do i need for turkiye burslari masters+

The official Application in 5 Steps page lists a valid identity document or passport, a photograph taken within the last year, a diploma or temporary graduation certificate, a transcript, national exam results if any, and international exam or language test results where the chosen program requires them. PhD applicants also submit a research proposal and a writing sample. Document requirements may be updated in the 2027 call.

Will Türkiye Scholarships use TR-YÖS in 2027?+

That is not yet clear for graduate applicants. On 4 December 2025, YTB announced a protocol with ÖSYM under which Türkiye Scholarships will use the infrastructure of TR-YÖS in its student selection processes. YÖS is administered principally for undergraduate admission, and YTB has not said how the protocol affects master’s or PhD applicants. Check the 2027 call for any testing requirement.
