We counted the entries in the Istanbul Medipol University International Students Office’s 2026 graduate program list. It has 76 master’s program entries across the Graduate School of Health Sciences, the Graduate School of Social Sciences and the Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences. Fourteen of those entries are taught fully in English. The Board of Trustees sets tuition fees each year, and the list gives a fee for each program.

Istanbul Medipol University is a foundation university in Istanbul, established on 7 July 2009 by the Turkey Education, Health and Research Foundation (TESA), according to the university’s About page (updated April 2026). The 2024-2025 Activity Report records 47,815 students in total, including 935 master’s students and 727 doctoral students. Of all students, 4,099 were foreign nationals, about 8.57 percent of the total.
This article answers six practical questions for graduate applicants:
which master’s degrees exist
which ones are taught in English
how fees are set
how to apply
what each graduate school requires
how to choose between a thesis and a non-thesis route
The sources are the university’s program list, its graduate application guides, its International Students Office pages and its activity report. Program lists, quotas and fees are revised for each intake. Mezun Kampüsü recommends checking every detail against the university’s documents for the semester you are applying to.

What master’s programs does Istanbul Medipol University offer?
Istanbul Medipol University offers master’s degrees through three graduate schools that appear in its 2026 list for international applicants. They are the Graduate School of Health Sciences with 45 entries, the Graduate School of Social Sciences with 21 entries and the Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences with 10 entries. That gives a derived total of 76 master’s program entries.
A graduate school is the academic unit within a Turkish university that runs graduate education and manages application and enrolment procedures. In Turkish, a graduate school is called an enstitü. At Istanbul Medipol University, each graduate school publishes its own application guide, and the requirements are not identical between schools.
The Graduate School of Health Sciences covers the widest range of fields. Its 2026 entries include:
Clinical and therapy fields: nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, audiology, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy
Laboratory sciences: anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, neuroscience, and medical biology and genetics
Pharmacy fields: clinical pharmacy and pharmacognosy
Other fields: orthodontics, health management, and history of medicine and ethics
The school’s English-language page describes its aim as “educating highly qualified specialists and researchers at the graduate level”.
The Graduate School of Social Sciences lists business management, political science, global politics and international relations, and media and communication systems. It also offers three law branches (private law, public law and health law), along with circular economy, sustainable finance and trade, and occupational health and safety. The Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences lists computer engineering, artificial intelligence engineering, civil engineering, and biomedical engineering and bioinformatics. It also offers electrical and electronics engineering and cyber systems, construction management and law, and healthcare systems engineering.
The 76 figure counts entries, not unique fields. The list counts a field taught in two languages, or offered with and without a thesis, as separate entries. Health management alone appears five times.
The number of graduate schools also depends on which source you read. The 2024-2025 Activity Report names five institutes. That total includes the Graduate School of Forensic Sciences and a separate health research institute. The International Students Office’s Master & PhD Applications page (updated January 2025) names four graduate schools. The 2026 international program list has no Graduate School of Forensic Sciences entries. If you are interested in forensic sciences, contact that graduate school directly.
Which Medipol master’s programs are taught in English?
Fourteen of the 76 master’s entries in Istanbul Medipol University’s 2026 international list are taught fully in English. Seven are in the Graduate School of Health Sciences, four in the Graduate School of Social Sciences and three in the Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences. Two more entries are listed as Turkish with 30 percent English. The remaining 60 entries are taught in Turkish.
Language of instruction is the language in which a program’s courses, assessments and thesis work are delivered, as stated in the university’s official program list. For an international applicant, the language of instruction decides whether a Turkish proficiency document or an English test score is needed.

Program | Graduate school | Thesis status |
|---|---|---|
Biostatistics | Health Sciences | With thesis |
Molecular Medicine and Biotechnology | Health Sciences | With thesis |
Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation | Health Sciences | With thesis |
Orthodontics | Health Sciences | With thesis |
Orthodontics | Health Sciences | Without thesis |
Health Management | Health Sciences | With thesis |
Health Management | Health Sciences | Without thesis |
Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management | Social Sciences | With thesis |
Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management | Social Sciences | Without thesis |
Business Management | Social Sciences | With thesis |
Business Management | Social Sciences | Without thesis |
Biomedical Engineering and Bioinformatics | Engineering and Natural Sciences | With thesis |
Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Cyber Systems | Engineering and Natural Sciences | With thesis |
Computer Engineering | Engineering and Natural Sciences | With thesis |
Two engineering entries fall between the two languages: Climate Change, Energy and Health, and Civil Engineering. The 2026 list describes both as “Turkish and 30% English”, so expect most teaching to be in Turkish. Artificial Intelligence Engineering is listed as Turkish-taught.
Several fields appear in both languages. Molecular Medicine and Biotechnology, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Health Management and Business Management each have separate Turkish and English entries. Check the language before you apply, because quotas, fees and language documents can differ between the two versions of the same field.

How are Medipol master’s tuition fees set?
Istanbul Medipol University’s Board of Trustees sets tuition fees each year. The 2026 graduate program list gives a separate fee for each master’s entry in US dollars. As of October 2026, fees vary by graduate school, program, language of instruction and academic year. For that reason this guide does not quote amounts.
The International Students Office’s Tuition Fees page, last updated on 20 August 2026, states the rule directly:
Tuition fees are determined annually by the University’s Board of Trustees.
— Istanbul Medipol University International Students Office, Tuition Fees page, 20 August 2026
Three points follow from the official documents.
First, the 2026 graduate program list does not say whether a listed fee is per year or for the whole program. Many international applicants miss this detail. Before you budget, confirm the payment period in your offer letter or with the graduate school.
Second, the 2026 list notes a discount for Medipol staff and graduates. The Graduate School of Social Sciences 2026-2027 fall guide adds a procedural rule for applicants claiming a discount on the basis of employment. They must upload a work certificate during the online application, and the guide states that discount requests made later are not taken into account.
Third, the International Students Office states that applicants cannot be charged for their application, whether they apply directly or through an intermediary. If anyone asks you to pay to submit a Medipol application, contact the university directly.
The Tuition Fees page also describes nationality-based, family and merit discounts. That page is written mainly for undergraduate intake, so it is unclear which of these discounts apply to master’s students. Ask the International Students Office in writing whether a given discount covers your program before you rely on it.

Log InHow do you apply to a Medipol master’s program?
You apply to an Istanbul Medipol University master’s program online through the university’s application system. Postal applications are not accepted. Applicants upload their documents, attend an interview if invited, and then complete final registration in person with original documents. The Graduate School of Social Sciences 2026-2027 fall guide and the Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences guideline both describe this sequence.
The order below combines the steps described in those two documents:
Choose a program entry from the 2026 graduate program list and note its graduate school, language of instruction and thesis status.
Read the application guide and the quota-and-conditions list of that graduate school for your intake. Program-specific conditions are published there, and the Graduate School of Social Sciences guide states that applicants who do not meet those conditions will not be interviewed and their applications will be cancelled.
For an engineering or science program, review the faculty profiles of the Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences. The International Students Office suggests contacting a faculty member for an informal interview about research interests.
Submit the online application. The International Students Office names MEBIS as the login portal for the Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences.
Upload every document and press the save button and then the complete-registration button. The Graduate School of Social Sciences guide warns that files uploaded without these two steps do not appear in the system.
Watch the graduate school’s web page for interview dates. The Graduate School of Social Sciences guide states that the system does not send an e-mail confirming your application.
If admitted, deliver your original documents in person within the announced period. The 2026-2027 guide states that final registration is not completed otherwise.
The Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences guideline for the 2024-2025 spring semester also asks for two reference letters. The letters must be signed by the referees, who send them directly by e-mail to the graduate school; applicants do not upload them to the portal. Other graduate schools ask for a reference and purpose letter only for some programs.
Application dates differ by graduate school and semester. As of October 2026, Istanbul Medipol University publishes them in a separate application calendar for each intake, not in the guides themselves.
What do Medipol graduate schools require from international applicants?
The requirements depend on the graduate school. The Graduate School of Social Sciences 2026-2027 fall guide exempts foreign nationals from ALES but asks for a GRE or GMAT certificate and a Turkish proficiency document. The Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences guideline also exempts international students from ALES and scores master’s applicants on GPA and interview.
Table 2: International applicant requirements for master’s study, by Istanbul Medipol graduate school (official guides; the engineering guideline covers the 2024-2025 spring semester)
Criterion | Graduate School of Social Sciences (2026-2027 fall guide) | Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences (2024-2025 spring guideline) |
|---|---|---|
ALES for foreign nationals | Not required; a department may request an equivalent exam | Not required for international students |
Additional test | GRE or GMAT certificate uploaded at application | None stated |
English evidence | Set per program; mandatory for doctoral programs | YDS, YÖKDİL or TOEFL iBT, or the graduate school’s own exam for English-taught programs |
Turkish evidence | Turkish proficiency document at final registration | TÖMER C1 certificate for Turkish-taught programs |
Scoring, master’s with thesis | ALES or equivalent 50%, GPA 20%, interview 30% | GPA 50%, interview 50% |
Scoring, master’s without thesis | GPA 50%, interview 50% | GPA 50%, interview 50% |
Reference letters | Required for some programs only | Two letters sent directly by the referees |
Minimum scores for each exam are set in the guide and quota list of each graduate school and can change between intakes, so they are not repeated here.
Two terms in the table need definitions. TÖMER is the common name for the Turkish language teaching centres attached to Turkish universities, which provide Turkish courses and issue certificates of Turkish proficiency. A Certificate of Turkish Proficiency is the document showing an applicant’s level of Turkish and required for admission to Turkish-medium programs; the accepted level varies between universities.
The Graduate School of Social Sciences guide lists the Turkish proficiency document among the final registration documents for foreign nationals in general. It does not limit the requirement to Turkish-taught programs. If you are applying to an English-taught social sciences entry, ask the graduate school whether the document applies to you.
The Graduate School of Health Sciences had not published an English guide for 2026-2027 that could be located as of October 2026. The International Students Office’s applications page says only that a TÖMER certificate is expected for Turkish-taught programs.

Thesis or non-thesis: which Medipol master’s route fits you?
Choose the master’s with thesis at Istanbul Medipol University if you may continue to a doctorate or want a research career. A master’s without thesis suits applicants who want professional coursework. In the 2026 international list, 58 master’s entries are with thesis and 18 are without thesis. The Graduate School of Social Sciences scores the two routes differently.
A master’s with thesis is a graduate program completed through coursework and the preparation of a thesis. A master’s without thesis is a coursework-focused graduate program completed with a term project instead of a thesis.
The Graduate School of Social Sciences 2026-2027 fall guide sets different scoring formulas for the two routes. For a master’s with thesis, an ALES or equivalent score counts 50 percent, the undergraduate GPA counts 20 percent and the interview counts 30 percent. For a master’s without thesis, GPA and interview count 50 percent each. The same guide links the routes to doctoral study. It requires doctoral applicants to hold a master’s with thesis, with an exception for students who enrolled in or graduated from a non-thesis master’s on or before 6 February 2013.
Non-thesis entries are concentrated in the Graduate School of Health Sciences and the Graduate School of Social Sciences, with eight entries each. The Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences lists two non-thesis entries, in Built Environment and Health and in Construction Management and Law.
Typical profiles and the route that tends to suit each:
An applicant planning a PhD in Turkey or abroad generally benefits from the thesis route, because Istanbul Medipol’s doctoral admission rules refer to a master’s with thesis.
A working professional in hospital administration, business or law may prefer a non-thesis entry such as Health Management, Business Management or Health Law.
An applicant who wants research training in English has more choice on the thesis route: 11 of the 14 fully English-taught entries require a thesis.
An applicant unsure about either route can ask the graduate school whether moving between the thesis and non-thesis routes is possible and under which conditions.
The Istanbul Medipol University Graduate Education, Training and Examination Regulation of 21 August 2022 governs matters that the guides do not address, according to the Graduate School of Social Sciences 2026-2027 guide.
Does “no ALES required” mean no entrance assessment?
No. Istanbul Medipol University’s 2026-2027 social sciences guide exempts foreign nationals from ALES. However, the same guide asks them for a GRE or GMAT certificate, scores them through GPA and interview, and allows a department to request an equivalent exam. The ALES exemption removes only one specific Turkish exam.
ALES is the centralised examination administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) and used in applications to graduate programs and in academic staff recruitment in Turkey. Turkish citizens applying to most master’s programs with thesis at Istanbul Medipol University are expected to submit an ALES score. The Graduate School of Social Sciences 2026-2027 guide states that ALES results are valid for five years.
For international students the picture is different. The Graduate School of Social Sciences guide states that foreign nationals do not need to have taken ALES. The Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences guideline for the 2024-2025 spring semester says the same about international students. Admission is still competitive at both schools. The interview carries 30 to 50 percent of the score at the Graduate School of Social Sciences, and 50 percent for master’s applicants at the Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences.
Graduates from a different field may face a further step. The Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences guideline states that it may require scientific preparation for applicants from other fields. A scientific preparatory program is a set of completion courses that a student admitted to a graduate program from a different field must complete before beginning the main program. Ask the graduate school early whether your bachelor’s degree counts as being in the same field.
The term “international student” also has a precise meaning. An international student is a person who is not a citizen of the Republic of Turkey and who is admitted to a higher education institution under international student status. Dual citizens should check carefully. The Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences guideline extends the ALES exemption to candidates who later acquired Turkish citizenship, but other graduate schools may treat dual citizens differently.
Document notes for applicants who studied outside Turkey
The Graduate School of Social Sciences 2026-2027 guide asks graduates of universities outside Turkey to submit Turkish translations of the diploma and the transcript. The translated transcript must show the grade average. If your transcript does not use a 100-point scale, the graduate school converts your grade average using the conversion table of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Keep originals ready, because final registration requires the original documents plus copies, delivered in person.

What should you do before applying to Medipol?
Before applying to an Istanbul Medipol University master’s program, confirm four things in writing:
the program’s language of instruction and thesis status
the requirements set by its graduate school
the fee and the period that fee covers
the application calendar for your intake
As of October 2026, fees, quotas and calendars are revised for each intake. A document from an earlier semester may no longer apply.
Use this list to prepare:
Find your program in the 2026 graduate program list and write down its graduate school, language and thesis status
Download the application guide and quota-and-conditions list of that graduate school for your intake
Check whether your graduate school asks for GRE or GMAT, TOEFL iBT, YDS, YÖKDİL or a TÖMER certificate
Order Turkish translations of your diploma and transcript
Ask two referees whether they can e-mail letters directly to the graduate school
Ask the International Students Office whether your fee is annual or covers the whole program
Bookmark the graduate school’s page for interview dates
Plan your residence permit application for after admission
Admission is not the final administrative step for a foreign national. A student residence permit is the residence permit granted to a foreign national studying in Turkey, allowing them to remain in the country for the duration of their studies. The Presidency of Migration Management handles these applications. Its rules sit outside the university’s control, so check the Presidency’s own announcements for your arrival date.
Keep copies of every message you exchange with Istanbul Medipol University’s International Students Office and graduate schools. Written confirmations help if a guide and a program list say different things, as the two documents do about Turkish proficiency.

Real-World Examples
The examples in this section are illustrative scenarios created to explain situations applicants may encounter.
Amina, a physiotherapist planning a PhD. Amina holds a bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy and wants to teach at university level one day. She finds that Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the Graduate School of Health Sciences has an English-taught entry with thesis in the 2026 list. Because she plans to continue to a doctorate, she prefers the thesis route. She e-mails the graduate school to ask which English test it accepts for the 2026-2027 intake, since no current English guide for Health Sciences is published. She waits for the written reply before booking a test date.
Daniel, a hospital administrator. Daniel works in hospital operations and wants a professional qualification without a research thesis. He sees that Health Management appears five times in the 2026 list, in Turkish and English, with and without thesis. He narrows his choice to the English-taught entry without thesis. Before applying, he asks the International Students Office in writing whether the listed fee is annual and which documents his graduate school expects. He then plans his budget around the written answer.
Leila, a business graduate with no ALES score. Leila has never taken ALES and assumes she cannot apply. Reading the Graduate School of Social Sciences 2026-2027 guide, she learns that foreign nationals are exempt from ALES. She also learns that a GRE or GMAT certificate must be uploaded with the application. She registers for the GMAT and gathers her translated transcript. She also prepares for the interview, which carries half of the score for the non-thesis Business Management entry.
Omar, a computer science graduate. Omar wants research experience in cyber systems. He reviews the faculty profiles of the Graduate School of Engineering and Natural Sciences and writes to one faculty member whose work matches his interests. After an informal online conversation, he applies to the English-taught Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Cyber Systems entry. He asks two former professors to e-mail their reference letters directly to the graduate school.
