Anadolu Üniversitesi tezsiz yüksek lisans programlarında ALES şartı aranmaz. Tezsiz başvurularda değerlendirme lisans genel not ortalamasıyla yapılır. Tezli yüksek lisansta ALES, GRE veya GMAT puanı, doktorada ise ALES puanı zorunludur. Güzel sanatlar anasanat dallarında ALES yerine yetenek sınavı uygulanır. Anadolu Üniversitesi lisansüstü öğrencileri TÜBİTAK ve YÖK burs programları ile araştırma görevliliği gibi destek türlerine başvurabilir. Anadolu Üniversitesi'nde tezsiz yüksek lisans programları bulunur ve en az iki, en çok üç yarıyılda tamamlanır. Program en az 60 AKTS değerinde en az 10 ders ile dönem projesinden oluşur. Tezsiz programlar örgün, ikinci öğretim ve uzaktan öğretim biçiminde açılır. Uzaktan öğretimde dersler çevrimiçi canlı yapılır, sınavlar yüz yüze gözetimli yürütülür.
Yabancı uyruklu adaylar Anadolu Üniversitesi lisansüstü başvurusunu çevrimiçi yapar ve not ortalamasıyla değerlendirilir. ALES, GRE, GMAT, YÖS ve TR-YÖS istenmez. Diploma ve transkriptin aslı ile noter onaylı Türkçe tercümesi yüklenir. Türkçe programlar için C1 düzeyi veya Türkçe Yeterlik Sınavı başarısı gerekir. Yurt dışı diplomanın okul tanınması kayıttan sonra YÖK'ten sorgulanır.
Anadolu Üniversitesi lisansüstü başvurularında YDS, e-YDS, YÖKDİL ve ÖSYM'nin eşdeğer kabul ettiği uluslararası sınavlar geçerlidir. Eşdeğer sınavlar arasında TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic ile Cambridge C1 Advanced ve C2 Proficiency yer alır. Doktora ve yabancı dilde eğitim veren programlarda dil belgesi zorunludur. Tezli yüksek lisansta dil puanı başvuru puanına katılır, tezsizde dil şartı aranmaz.
Anadolu Üniversitesi doktora başvurusu için tezli yüksek lisans veya lisans diploması, ALES puanı ve yabancı dil belgesi gerekir. Lisans mezunları da doktora programlarına başvurabilir, ancak daha yüksek not ortalaması ve ALES puanı aranır. Başvurular Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü tarafından değerlendirilir. Bazı programlarda yazılı bilimsel değerlendirme sınavı ve sözlü sınav yapılır. Sanatta yeterlik programlarında yetenek sınavı uygulanır.
